Conxemar, one of the leading international seafood products exhibitions, took place from the 1st to the 3rd of October in Vigo, Spain. The 21st edition of the exhibition attracted more than 37,000 visitors and 700 exhibitors from 108 countries around the world.
The seafood and fishing industry plays a key role in economies around the world. Conxemar yet again demonstrated how dynamic the market is in the Iberian region. According to Eurostat, Spain is the country with the largest fishing fleet in Europe, followed by the UK and France.
The global seafood trade has been growing in volume and value in the past years due to increasing demand. Consumption and trade of seafood is expected to increase further over the coming years, despite challenges such as global trade tensions.
Some of the key trends, that are shaping the global seafood industry are globalization, industry consolidation and an emphasis on sustainability and traceability. Companies are increasingly looking to expand beyond their markets, diversify product offerings and meet market demands in terms of price and product quality.
Our goal at AGRO is to support companies in their global growth strategies. With our unique international network, wide range of value-added services and commodity expertise, we are well-equipped to tailor our services to the client’s needs.
Our commitment to continuous improvement was demonstrated by our latest investment into an expansion of our facility in Urk, Netherlands – a key Northern European centre for seafood trade. As part of the expansion, a dedicated chamber for -60°C storage and blast freezing cells were added to the facility, along with an area for case picking.
We also grew our network in Iberia this year, by acquiring facilities at key port locations – Valencia, Sines and Leixões. These strategic acquisitions added to our already significant footprint in Iberia, with existing cold stores in Barcelona, Algeciras, Lisbon and Porto. Our expanded operations in this region paved the way for more efficient trade flow management, which facilitates a more comprehensive storage and logistics solution for customers.
