AGRO Merchants has kicked off a new Energy Management program for the company. Initially being piloted in the North American region, the program has been designed with the company’s goal of energy efficiency and sustainability at the forefront of our thinking.

Adam Rushby, Vice President of Engineering, said: “Energy is the 2nd highest cost in our business, with $ millions spent every year to refrigerate and power our extensive network of facilities. We have set ourselves a goal of reducing energy spend in the U.S. region by 15% by the end of 2020, and with the right focus and commitment, we believe this is very achievable.”

As a key part of the Energy Management program, we will be investing to install LED lighting in all our U.S. facilities in 2018, as well as implementing energy teams in each of our sites that will consist of representatives across the facility – Engineering, Operations, Office staff – and who will be responsible for identifying and implementing energy best practices. In addition, AGRO is committed to investing in our facilities to minimize energy usage through adoption of the latest equipment and technologies.

“The AGRO team is truly excited about the program and the benefits we will see from it. This has the full support from the company leadership, and we are all dedicated to ensure the program is a huge success!”

AGRO’s commitment to sustainability is also reflected by the recent announcement of the company’s Portuguese facilities operating on 100% renewable energy.
