Energy-Efficient Operation Solutions to Become a Decisive Factor in Consumer Preference

Based on recent report published by PWC on the future of energy systems, sustainability is increasingly becoming an essential factor for businesses, especially in Europe.

Social pressure will be one of the driving forces for the need to develop sustainable solutions, as citizens are expected to be generally more aware and supportive of businesses taking steps towards energy-efficient systems.

Sustainability and energy-saving are some of the key priorities of AGRO’s business strategy. One of the tools to achieve effective energy management is the optimal use of space. AGRO uses space-saving mobile pallet racking systems in most of the existing and all of the newly constructed facilities. Mobile pallet racks enable AGRO to save vast amounts of energy in its cold stores worldwide.

mobile-racksMovable racks are most commonly used for frozen and chilled goods, however AGRO also opted for this energy-saving solution for fresh fruit and vegetables. ADB Cool Company (ADB), part of AGRO Merchants Group since 2015, is one of the few fresh produce-focused companies who use mobile racking systems in their warehouse.

Alex de Bruijn, managing director of ADB, said: “At ADB we are very supportive of any innovative technological solutions which help us in our efforts to be environmentally responsible. Even though mobile pallet racking systems are not widely used within the fresh produce sector, they have proven to be very effective and economical in terms of energy-saving.”

ADB Cool Company is renowned for the wide variety of integrated services they can offer to the fresh produce sector such as repacking, netting, quality inspections, ripening and grape cutting.

ADB has recently finalised an expansion of their facilities, which added 5,500 pallet spaces and 13 extra loading bays to the portfolio of the company. Thanks to the investment into modern, environmentally responsible technologies, the facility achieved a BREEAM Excellent certification. BREEAM is a leading sustainability assessment method for infrastructure and buildings.
