EU Confirms No. 1 Position as Agri-food Exporter Worldwide

Blog page

EU secured its position as No.1 world agri-food exporter after reaching €129 billion in 2015, an annual increase of 5.7%. Agricultural products represent more than 7% of all goods exported from the EU, according to the annual Agri-food trade report.

Agriculture and the food and drink industry account for 7.5% of employment and 3.7% of total value added in the EU, and export continues to be one of the key drivers of growth and jobs in the industry. Although some of the EU member states suffered from the Russian ban, development of new markets and the strengthening ties with existing trade partners made the overall performance positive in 2015.

Some of the top destinations for EU agri-food exports are the U.S. and China, with around half of the total gains in exports coming from increased trade with China. The wide range of products from all parts of the value chain demonstrate the versatility of the sector. Diversification of exports has been the key for the increased performance.

At AGRO Merchants group we thrive to provide the best solutions to our valued clients, including export management. Together with our partners we can support your import and export transits and forward distribution for your cold chain needs. With our presence in 8 countries across Europe, North America and Latin America we have the infrastructure and capabilities to accommodate our customers’ demands. AGRO invests in strategic locations and industry-leading technologies to ensure the highest-quality supply chain management standards.

One of our recent investments was a massive expansion in the port of Algeciras, which will be completed in August 2016.

GFA expansion - cold storage facility

The facility of Gestion Frio Algeciras (GFA), a proud member of AGRO Merchants Group, will increase the current output of its operational capacity, by five times, totalling 15,611 pallets. Traditionally the facility has been focused on import flows, but with the expansion GFA will start operations of supply chain management for export flows as well.

GFA is also diversifying in terms of focus commodities. The new facility will accommodate clients’ demands for frozen storage at the same time as expanding the refrigerated section. Two new frozen chambers and five dual- temperature chambers combined with significant upgrades to operational equipment will give our first movers and everyone that follows unrivalled service levels.
